  • Opening up with a building introduction which carries on throughout the entire track, the sound is interesting from the start and I only hope that the band do not disappoint by pushing this gradual building to an extreme
  • Despite this, I would still recommend Runnin The Round Ball for a listen because it certainly has the potential there and also strikes me as one of the stronger songs on Danse Manatee despite its flaw in terms of length

Runnin The Round Ball is a song by Animal Collective which appears on their second release Danse Manatee. Opening up with a building introduction which carries on throughout the entire track, the sound is interesting from the start and I only hope that the band do not disappoint by pushing this gradual building to an extreme.

Something I should mention about this song is that it’s entirely instrumental, though it’s

far better than the opening instrumental, A Manatee Danse.

As I said, the song opens up with an interesting building rhythm and the percussion section really comes into prominence as the track progresses before the song reaches its end.

Although I find the sound established on this track to be interesting, the track has a serious flaw in that it’s incredibly short.

While Animal Collective make a song like Meet ...

      • The Light Child nearly nine minutes long which struck me as complete filler, they reduce one of the better tracks on this record to be only around two minutes.

Because of its short length, Runnin The Round Ball is unfortunately prevented from really going anywhere too interesting which is a true shame.

As the track progressed, the percussion and background rhythms were really able to build and felt as if they

were going to go somewhere interesting and be one of the strongest tracks on the record, but the track is unfortunately cut incredibly short before any of this is allowed to happen.

Despite this, I would still recommend Runnin The Round Ball for a listen because it certainly has the potential there and also strikes me as one of the stronger songs on Danse Manatee despite its flaw in terms of length.
