I enjoyed “Wrong Turn” and “Wrong Turn 2: Dead End” and was all over “Wrong Turn 3: Left for Dead” upon discovering its existence. The movie exceeded my expectations since sequels usually go downhill in quality. You know a scary gorefest is going to be good when within the first five minutes a hot chick doffs her bikini top and three hikers get slaughtered.

As with the first two movies, the backwoods are not safe thanks

to those deformed hillbilly cannibals who don’t simply kill but butcher in imaginative methods. A guy springs a steel wire trap splicing him into three vertical pieces. Another guy gets his face sliced off. That topless chick gets an arrow shot through the back of her head and it exits by pooping out her eyeball which the cannibal snacks on. That’s the stuff we gore fans love.

I liked how the plot presented some formidable foes ...

      • for the cannibals. A bus transporting hardened convicts is run off the road by the cannibals. The cons are thinking freedom but soon discover something nasty is stalking them. It’s great that instead of the cannibals pursuing weeny campers, they face a crew that will fight back. The convict leader is a vicious murderer who beheads a cannibal to send a message.

The inbred cannibals are real freaks. The one humorous scene is when one

smacks his lips when tasting the broth of a boiling head stew. The makeup and special effects are good. There is no one you have ever heard of in the cast and the actors deliver credible performances.

I realize a movie containing extreme violence, nudity and profanity isn’t for all and certainly too strong for younger audiences. But is creepy hillbilly cannibals and eye-popping gore is your thing, then “Wrong Turn 3: Left for Dead” is the ticket.
