We took the shuttle from the airport to a large building that contained every car rental company you could imagine. We originally had a car reserved with Dollar Rental with the assumption that they would be cheaper than the big name car rental companies. We instantly ran into a problem which was that we didn’t have a credit card which was apparently required to rent a car. This was our first vacation and I’m sure this information might have been somewhere in the website text, but this was a major set back for us. To rent with a debit card, Dollar Rental wanted a three hundred dollar deposit that would be credited to

your account after returning the car sometimes. This wasn’t even enough though; they wanted you to pass a credit check which wasn’t in the question for me and my traveling companion. It turned out this was the case for most of the car rental companies.

Enterprise was willing to work with us because it was an airport location. We showed them our return ticket and they placed a hold on our account which would go through upon returning the car. We initially rented an economy car because it was the cheapest. We were warned that it would not be very luxurious because it didn’t have power windows and the air didn’t run very good.

      • However, the staff member who escorted us to our car was nice enough to upgrade us to a compact car which was very nice and had just enough room for our three large suitcases and carry-ons.

In my opinion, a rental car is a must-have in Las Vegas in order to have the opportunity to explore the whole Strip - warning: distances between hotels is much greater than it appears - and downtown. Additionally, because of this car we had the opportunity to go to Red Rock Canyon which ended up being a highlight of our trip. The traffic on the Strip isn’t as bad as everyone says it is and it did

not take up that long to get clear from one end to the other. Especially during the day when traffic is light.

Enterprise was available to answer all of our questions when we called them. We did have to stop and fill up the tires with air because they were extremely low. This involved getting off the freeway and was a bit of an inconvenience. I feel that they should have had this taken care of before renting the car. The insurance on the car was very expensive - over two hundred dollars for ten days - but the convenience of being able to move freely around Las Vegas was well worth it.
