  • Something to note about Big Bird is that it’s the longest track on the record at nearly five and a half minutes, but I can proudly say that I think Andrew Jackson Jihad saved the best for last and that they’re able to close this album in an incredibly satisfying way

Big Bird is a song by Andrew Jackson Jihad and is the sixteenth and final track on their 2011 album entitled Knife Man. Opening up with the vocals singing alone, the track has a similar sound to the track to precede it, Free Bird, in that the vocal performance is pretty gentle and calm compared to normal.

I don’t believe I’ve ever heard an Andrew Jackson Jihad song which starts with purely the vocals completely alone, but a listener gets a

nice feel for the vocal tone without any instrumentation distractions.

However, after about forty-five seconds into the song, the instrumentation abruptly comes in and really reinforces the gaining power behind the vocal delivery.

The only way I can really describe the sound right now is that it has a pretty epic sound for Andrew Jackson Jihad in that the music sounds incredibly full and it actually sounds as if there’s an angelic background chorus behind the lead vocals of the song.

      ...

      • Following this section, most of the instrumentation drops out at about a minute and a half into the song to feature the vocals singing along with a string section before the rest of the instrumentation joins back in to reestablish the very epic sound.

Something to note about Big Bird is that it’s the longest track on the record at nearly five and a half minutes, but I can proudly say that I think Andrew Jackson Jihad saved the best for

last and that they’re able to close this album in an incredibly satisfying way.

I do not believe I’ve heard a song by the band before which has struck me as having such a mature and developed sound.

From the full instrumentation to the passionate vocal performance to the excellent lead instrumental section at about the midpoint mark of the song, Big Bird is easily one of my favorite songs on this record and one of the better songs from this band.
