  • In addition, I think that Andrew Jackson Jihad made a smart decision in placing American Tune after The Gift Of The Magi 2 because the two songs offer a good contrast in terms of attitude and dynamics and placing two quick and energetic tracks like The Gift Of The Magi 2 in a row would simply draw dry in my opinion
  • Overall, I’d recommend American Tune to a listener who would like to get introduced to the sound of Andrew Jackson Jihad, but would possibly like to ease into their more aggressive and energetic works

American Tune is a song by Andrew Jackson Jihad and is the third track on their most recent 2011 release, Knife Man. In contrast to the previous track on the record, American Tune opens up with an acoustic guitar rhythm before the vocals come in the track and interestingly enough, a kazoo.

Though Andrew Jackson Jihad did have one song on an earlier album which was centered all around the kazoo, it’s a sound they typically don’t utilize but

      surprisingly work well with.

In terms of the lyrics, they focus on injustices in American society in terms of ethnicities and gender.

Though the energy isn’t nearly on the same level as the previous track on this record, The Gift Of The Magi 2, I must say that the vocal performance throughout the track is still wonderful and what the track may lacks in energy, it certainly makes up for in a more mature sound and great vocal performance.

Though the two songs are difficult to compare, I must admit that American Tune was actually the song to

jump out more to me on first listen of the album primarily due to the more developed songwriting approach the band takes on this track, the excellent vocal performance throughout, and the unusual usage of including a kazoo with prominence in the instrumentation of the song.

Overall, I’d recommend American Tune to a listener who would like to get introduced to the sound of Andrew Jackson Jihad, but would possibly like to ease into their more aggressive and energetic works.
