  • The best way I could describe the opening of this track was that a single person with their guitar was trying to fill up a huge hall, but thankfully this problem begins to go away as the track progresses on
  • Overall, nothing musically amazing happens throughout this track, but I think the band made the smart move of gradually having more and more sound come into the mix because this constantly makes the track change and hold a listener’s attention
  • Overall, Godzilla Flick isn’t one of my favorite Flaming Lips songs, but it is one of the more solid tracks from Hear It Is in my opinion and certainly wouldn’t hurt to at least check out once you have a proper introduction to the Flaming Lips and their typical sound

Godzilla Flick is a song by the Flaming Lips which appears on their album Hear It Is. Opening up with an acoustic guitar pattern, the vocals to the track come in pretty quickly and although I can hear hints of Coyne’s typical tone, it seems as if I’m listening to a different singer on this track to be honest.

Thus far, the track sounds pretty empty as it’s only Coyne singing along to this simple

acoustic guitar pattern, but the drums do kick in about a minute in to help fill up the track a little bit.

As the song progresses, the guitar gradually gets lower and the band also makes use of background vocal noises which certainly helps to fill up the track.

I should mention right now that the sound The Flaming Lips had throughout Hear It Is really is not the sound that the band would one day go on to be known for, so if you’re looking for an accurate introduction to The Flaming Lips, you are better off looking elsewhere.
