  • I Don’t Live Today is a song by The Jimi Hendrix Experience which appears on their album Are You Experienced
  • The track opens up with an interesting play-off between a lead guitar line and an interesting drum pattern
  • After this solo section we transition back into the chorus of the track so there are two things I like thus far

I Don’t Live Today is a song by The Jimi Hendrix Experience which appears on their album Are You Experienced? The track opens up with an interesting play-off between a lead guitar line and an interesting drum pattern. Hendrix comes in with the vocal melody pretty much immediately and while the verse seems to be a bit free (Partially due to all the random guitar feedback giving it a very psychedelic and experimental sound), but the

chorus feels a lot tighter to me because the riffs and drum pattern is a bit more straightforward.

After the first chorus the band goes into an extended instrumental section led by a lead guitar part from Hendrix which carries with it the psychedelic sound which was prominent and present throughout the first verse of the song.

After this solo section we transition back into the chorus of the track so there are two things I ...

      • like thus far.

For one, the structure the band is playing with is unorthodox rather than predictable and a listener is also able to hear the more experimental sounds of the group and also the more traditional rock-sections.

As the song progresses, the track dives deeper into a psychedelic section which seems completely in free-fall and just seems like a very open jam session where each member lets loose on their respective instrument.

        Also, the band utilizes

fade in and fade out throughout this section as well which gives me the impression that this song would be pretty interesting to listen to on an actual stereo system.

Overall, the song is dominated by the psychedelic sections despite having a more traditional rock and roll chorus, so if you find that you’re not typically a fan of psychedelic music, this track (And band as a whole for that matter), may not be your best option.
