When I first heard about the Captain America movie, my first thought was, “How can Chris Evans be The Human Torch AND Captain America?” Is the smooth-talking wise-cracking lady’s man really the right person to be playing the man who fights for truth, justice, and the American way? Director Joe Johnston seemed to think so.

The movie starts off by showing how Steve Rogers (a.k.a Captain America, for all you non-nerds)lives his life as a wimp of a man from Brooklyn with the qualities that most men lack, but all men need. Once he

has proved himself to the right people he is nominated to be injected with a super serum that will explode his body to the peak of human strength. The movie takes a bit of a dip when he is exploited as a symbol in a showgirl routine instead of what they should have done with him right after they buffed him up, throw him into Germany and have him kick some Nazi butt. Once he’s had a reality check he does as all Americans do. He breaks some rules and goes behind enemy lines.

      • That’s when the action kicks in and we get to see some of his signature moves. From there the movie only gets more and more intense as we are taken on a thrill ride through Captain America’s adventures.

With characters like Captain America’s nemesis, The Red Skull (played by the wonderful Hugo Weaving) the beautiful Peggy Carter, Cap’s best friend Bucky, and a small roll played by Tommy Lee Jones, the movie gains a lot of personality and a few laughs. But super nerds beware, this is not like the comic books that we

all love so dearly. Enter the movie theater not expecting a great comic book movie, but a great Hollywood movie. And don’t forget to sit through the painfully long credits to catch a trailer of the movie we have been waiting for ever since we learned of Nick Fury’s plans, The Avengers.

So if you’re sitting around reading this article I would suggest you get up, grab your keys and some cash, and head down to the theater and check this film out. I mean come on, it’s got America in the title, how can you refuse?
