If I were ever looking for a highly inexpensive touchscreen operated computer I would look for the Archos 101. Let’s start by looking at the specs of the tablet; first of all it has a 10. 1 inch multi touch screen, but only two fingers are allowed. Now the Processor being used in this tablet is nothing special it’s an ARM Cortex V8 single core 1ghz Central processing unit; the graphics accelerator isn’t the greatest it uses open GL’s 3d 2. 0 shader system.

Looking at these specs alone I’d try comparing it to something like the Ipads specs. From my point of view I think it’s an alright tablet, but I think some of the bad needs to be pointed out here. It has two speakers in it, and one of mine had blown since

I was using the unit at a high volume. The screen used in the Tablet is claimed to be impact resistant but I had broken the screen very easily when accidentally stepping on it; I had to send the Tablet in and get it fixed for 150 USD which is quite spendy.

Another downside to this unit is that the amount of RAM it has is only 256 Megabytes. Normally in Android devices RAM is used to handle tasks such as running multiple applications at a time. This low amount of memory is very noticeable when switching from one application to the next. One thing I bet a lot of the people reading this are thinking is ‘Does it have a camera?’ why yes it does have a camera, but not a very

      good one.

The Archos 101 boasts a not so great . 3 Mega pixel camera; Plus it’s front facing only. If you wanted a cool sleek tablet with an awesome camera this is not for you. The company really did make a tablet computer, and you can tell by all of its wonderful ports.

First off starting from top to bottom the ports are on the left side of the unit. The volume buttons come first, then the power button. The 3. 5 mm jack is next you can plug headphones and speaker to it if you want.

Next port down is the amazing usb jack this is very useful and proves to be an innovative feature; You can plug anything from flash drives to usb trinkets and your cellphone in. The next port is ...

the micro usb port, you can plug your Archos 101 into your computer and exchange files. Next up is a slot for micro sd cards you can go from 256 mbs to 32 gbs. For some the next may be useful and it may not be; It’s an HDMI port that can be streamed at up to 1280×720 or 720p.

Last is the power port where you can charge your tablet via wall charger Now we can look into the features with more clarity and detail. The HDMI port is very useful but while plugged into your tv your screen acts as a mouse and your finger is the cursor you must double tap for one touch. This is extremely frustrating and do to the tablets poor screen quality it is even harder to

do. The screen resolution on the tablet is pretty nice being at a 16:9 aspect ratio at 1024×600; What takes away from this is part of the natural User interface.

The natural android home back search and menu buttons are not physical they are always on the right side of the screen its extremely annoying and causes incompatibilities with apps. Android OS is famous for its android market but unfortunately Archos 101 internet tablet does not come with android market; However it does come with appslib, which is an application service. If you decide to get the archos 101 just know there are better tablets out there such as the Motorola Xoom and Samsung galaxy tab. The Archos comes in two variations: 16 gigabyte and 8 gigabyte.

The 8gb is 300 USD the 16 gb is 350 USD.
