  • I've always had a problem with iron from infancy, but it has gotten worse after I had my own child, to the point where I was looking at anemia
  • I do not take them any longer because I found a superior brand, but I quite liked them for several reasons
  • I can tell when I start lip-smacking for blood (and, I am a well-done-steak type of girl, so I know something is wrong at that point), and my gums and eyes turn a really pale, almost white, color
  • I would recommend it to anyone needing iron supplements

I’ve always had a problem with iron from infancy, but it has gotten worse after I had my own child, to the point where I was looking at anemia. It gets so low during menstruation that I actually start craving blood and long for a nice warm cup of cow’s blood with warm milk added in as creamer. Sick, right? No worries, I do not succumb to it, and instead take supplements to try and elevate my iron levels. One of the vitamins that I used to take (because I needed some

desperately and ran into the local store and bought whatever they had) was Rexall Advanced Iron Mineral Supplements. I do not take them any longer because I found a superior brand, but I quite liked them for several reasons.

These are small, round pills that are the blue color that in a different light, looks purple. It’s a tricky color, that one. But, they do not smell so bad and have a slight after-taste that can be washed away easily with water. They are very easy to swallow, which is always a plus. The directions state to take two a day, and that is what I did, every day without fail, for a week during my cycle. Iron, of course, is essential for normal red blood cell production, and a deficiency has always been easy to spot for me. I can tell when I start lip-smacking for blood (and, I am a well-done-steak type of girl, so I know something is wrong at that point), and my gums and eyes turn a really pale, almost white, color. That’s when I would grab these ...

      pills.

What I found so great with these is that while I get sick to my stomach with other iron pills, or any multi-vitamin that contained iron, these never made my stomach ill. The iron in these is Carbonyl iron, which is much gentler on the stomach, and since I found that out, I actively sought out only products that use that form. Each bottle had 60 pills in it, enough for a month is taken daily, and each dose (2 pills) contains 278% of the daily value of Iron (50mg), as well

as 12% DV (117mg) of Calcium because Iron must be taken with Calcium to be absorbed into the body. I have no issues with these vitamins, and the only reason I no longer take them is that I found a better one (for me). I would recommend it to anyone needing iron supplements. They made a huge difference in how I feel at that time of the month, and if taken early (a week before menstruation), I would get no symptoms of deficiency at all. They were great, so I would recommend them, definitely.
