My churchmates and I went to the province of Cagayan De Oro for a week-long fellowship event. I was able to book a promo fair via Cebu Pacific Airlines’ website. The price was approximately Php 3k for a roundtrip fare from Manila to Cagayan and Vice versa.

One thing I recently noticed with Cebu Pacific Airlines’ website is that when booking flights, whether international or domestic, is that they give you an option now to purchase additional kilos of baggage when you need it. Before when purchasing tickets online, you have the default 15 kilos of baggage allowance included with the ticket you purchase. Just this April (or so as I was told by the customer care rep), they changed this scheme making it so that anyone who wishes to travel light (with only carry-on or handcarried baggages less

than 7kilos) can opt out of the additional 15 kilos. Now they are charging Php150 ($3-4) for an additional 15 kilos whether going to or from your destination. You can also now choose up to 30 kilos depending on how much baggage you are carrying on the way or coming back. This way you can customize the number of kilos you need for each trip you make.

How do I feel about it? Well somehow I feel that this is quite a ripoff again for the Cebu Pacific Airlines’ customers. On the other hand, people who travel light can just skip an additional Php300 ($3-4) (2 trips = 15 kilos baggage). But is it really cheaper?

Somehow when checking out the Philippine Airlines’ flight costs, somehow PAL costs less than Cebu Pacific’s airline tickets. The airport of Cebu Pacific is huge ...

      • and checking in is a breeze in Manila because all their counters are open for all provincial destinations. Meaning, you can check in your baggages to whatever open counter regardless of your provincial destination, unlike in PAL where they still segregate the check-in counters per destination. This makes it more organized but it does save a bit of time when checking in at a central counter where it can accommodate all destinations.

The flight experience is alright. The captain informs you about flight details, flight time, distance travelling to your destination; the flight attendants are youthful and accommodating. There are no in-flight meals, so make sure to purchase your water or food before boarding the plane especially when travelling abroad where travel time is greater than 1 hour. It sucks that for the price you pay, there are no snacks

available for free. You have to purchase food from them in-flight and the prices are steep.

I have been travelling a lot so delays or what-not are normal occurrences so I could not say definitely that their flights are on time all the time. There are different circumstances that are inevitable and cannot be avoided like air traffic or bad weather.

All in all I would say the Cebu Pacific Airlines is an OK airline. It is a major competitor to the local flagship carrier which is Philippine Airlines. What really sucks about them is that they do not have in-flight free snacks even for international flights. You would say that maybe because their flight fares are cheaper but really, it is not. If you try to compare flight fares prices, sometimes PAL is cheaper depending on the destination and season.
