Since I decided to go natural six months ago I’ve become very cautious about what hair styling methods I use. Going natural means that I no longer put harsh chemicals or relaxer in my hair and I no longer use heat as a straightening method. The benefits of going natural have already become obvious to me.My hair is thicker, hardly ever breaks off and looks more healthy over all. However there are sometimes when I feel like I really want to wear my hair straight and since my hair is also so thick it’s hard for me to fit all of it under the wigs I sometimes like to wear. One advantage

of having straight hair is being able to run my fingers through it and having it be more manageable.

That being said I decided that I wanted to go out and buy a flat iron. In the past I would use a hot comb but I definitely felt like it damaged my hair since it uses a thin toothed comb to straighten my thick head of hair. Even though I decided to buy a flat iron I didn’t want to buy just any kind. The previous flat iron I used was a gift from my aunt and cost twenty dollars. The old flat iron had little to no heat control and the plates were ...

      • coated in grime and dirt and seemingly started to rust. I did not want to use that on my hair at all!

I decided to go to the one place I knew was trusted in hair care tools which was Sally’s Beauty Supply. I purchased a flat iron called an Ion One Stroke Perpetual Heat Ceramic Styling Iron and what appealed to me most about it was what I read on the box. It mentioned how it uses ions and I am a big fan of ions. It also conditions the hair while it straightens and since it uses one stroke of heat I wouldn’t need to repeatedly go over my hair strands! It

cost me over $90 including tax and that’s more than I’ve ever paid for a flat iron. When I opened up the box I loved the smooth feel of the plates! It was also advertised as being able to heat up in just 45 seconds and that was absolutely true. I never experienced using a flat iron before that left my hair feeling so silky smooth until I used the Ion One Stroke Perpetual Heat Ceramic Styling Iron. I ended up returning it though, not because it didn’t work, but because I don’t have a job and I needed money for my rent. However, it worked great and I’m really happy with how it straightened my hair.
