I’ve had all kinds of variations of Rice Krispie Treat recipes, but the original recipe I’ve been making since I was a child is by far my favorite. I’m a firm believer that sometimes less really is more, and I think the recipe I grew up with is perfect just the way it is, and doesn’t need any extra ingredients. It was one of the few recipes my mother would let me help her make, and every time we made them together

felt like a special occasion. Not too many of our Rice Krispie Treats actually made it to the refrigerator. The majority of them were usually gone before they had even cooled to room temperature. I think Rice Krispie Treats are the perfect all-occasion treat, because they’re easy to make and almost always a crowd-pleaser. Other than the classic great taste, I think they evoke fond memories for a lot of people.

Here are the ingredients needed to make the Original ...

      • Rice Krispie Treats:

3 tablespoons of butter or margarine 1 package (10 ounces, approximately 40) regular marshmallows or 4 cups of miniature marshmallows 6 cups of Rice Krispies cereal

To make them, melt the butter in a large saucepan over low heat. Add marshmallows and stir well until completely melted. Then remove them from the heat. Using a buttered spatula or wax paper evenly press the mixture into a 13×9x2 inch pan coated with cooking spray. Cool and cut into 2-inch squares.

The original recipe suggests that these are best if served the same day. I’ve never had to worry about that, because any time I’ve made them they were gone in far less than 24 hours.

This recipe will always have a prominent place in my recipe box, filed under classic recipes, and I’ll continue to make them for as long as I’m able. For me, making and eating Rice Krispie Treats is a nostalgic experience, and I definitely recommend sharing this recipe often with family and friends.
