  • These chicken-style fillets are one of my favourite Quorn products and I think the taste and fibrous texture is remarkably similar to chicken, but without the nasty veins and tendrils that used to put me off so much
  • Apart from the fact that they make meals easy for the vegetarian, as you simply substitute them for real chicken fillets and just add the vegetables, they are really high in protein (more so than meat I believe) but they have none of the fat
  • I made tasty mash potato and did some peas to go with and I really enjoyed it and it was very filling
  • This pack of two fillets cost one pound something but it is worth it
  • They are widely available from supermarkets and I would totally recommend them

If I fancy a (vegetarian) meat and vegetables type dinner I often look to the Quorn range of meat-substitute dishes and I usually like them. The last two nights I have had one of these crispy fillets - which are like fillets of roast chicken – and they have been very tasty indeed.

Quorn is a product that has been developed from the fungi family and which, when flavoured differently according to the product (beaf steak or mince

or whatever) it does have a surprising similarity to a meat texture.

Anyway, I have found them to be very tasty.

So they are a very healthy alternative.

You get two fillets in each packet (found in the chilled section of supermarkets) and each fillet measures about 6 inches or so in length.

I just stuck it in the pre-heated oven for about 20 minutes.

By the way, the fillet has a crispy

coating like a batter and this comes out of the oven nice and browned, crisp and sizzling.

I never really time it properly and they came out nicely both times.

I made tasty mash potato and did some peas to go with and I really enjoyed it and it was very filling.
