  • I bought this dog bed from the online shop of the Battersea Dogs & Cats Home website (find it by Googling it) and it has been a great success
  • My 7 month old puppy, Charlie, is lying sprawled out in it as I write and it has become his favourite place to sleep
  • Charlie is a Border Collie and Labrador cross, so he will not be the biggest dog you can get but I think surely the largest one will not be adequate for say a Great Dane or a Rottweiler
  • So far it has remained unchewed and the dog seems to love sleeping in it, so I would recommend it, but just measure your dog first to make sure you get the right size
  • A little expensive I know, but for a good cause

I bought this dog bed from the online shop of the Battersea Dogs & Cats Home website (find it by Googling it) and it has been a great success. My 7 month old puppy, Charlie, is lying sprawled out in it as I write and it has become his favourite place to sleep. I could have purchased a cheaper dog bed from a local shop no doubt but I was pleased to pay extra due to the fact that the proceeds go to the very deserving cause of this establishment which is apparently inundated with strays and cannot cope. In fact, so I have read, they have to put a large number of animals down basically because they just cannot afford to house them all until suitable owners are found, which is very sad. I chose this particular dog

bed as it is rather attractive to look at and which will fit in nicely with the newly decorated lounge of my new house.

Firstly, I would mention that I do not think they make this dog bed large enough for the bigger breeds. I purchased the bed that is one size smaller than the largest size – at 28 inches in length – and although it is perfect for Charlie now that he is still young, I do not know how much more he will grow but I suspect that it will one day be too small. Charlie is a Border Collie and Labrador cross, so he will not be the biggest dog you can get but I think surely the largest one will not be adequate for say a Great Dane or a Rottweiler. The largest size is 32 ...

      • inches in length and the smallest size is 20 inches in length, so measure your dog before purchasing.

Charlie seems to find it really comfortable. It has a lovely soft feel and the material feels like a particularly soft kind of suedette. The main, oval¬-shaped bed has sides that make it cosy for your pet to snuggle against but they are also soft so Charlie sometimes enjoys lying half hanging out of the bed, so he obviously find it soft to lie across the sides. Sometimes he just curls up in it on the thick, soft cushion that is detachable and nice and plush to lie on. He used to sleep in a cardboard box with blankets in until he started chewing it up. When I first got this bed he did try to chew it

but I have been consistent in telling him ‘no’ when he does that and he no longer attempts to chew it. He certainly has not managed to rip the material at all and it still looks in good condition after weeks of use. This bed is machine washable but it still looks good and does not need washing yet.

This is an attractive dog bed – being chocolate brown with a pale brown coloured cushion – so it goes with the décor. So far it has remained unchewed and the dog seems to love sleeping in it, so I would recommend it, but just measure your dog first to make sure you get the right size. This cost me £35 but the prices vary according to the size. A little expensive I know, but for a good cause.
