The 1988 film starring Sigourney Weaver called “Gorillas in the Mist: The Story of Dian Fossey” was something that surprised me. Normally, I am not one to really enjoy films such as these, but this film changed my mine towards movies that capture the real life events of people who embarked forward to make a difference.

      In this film, Sigourney Weaver

plays Dian Fossey, a nature lover who is trying to study the gorilla habitat in South America. There are poachers in the forest however, who are trying to kill the gorillas and sell them to make money. One poacher in particular sets his eyes on Dian and warns her, the two of them are therefore enemies. It turns out, that just when Dian seems that she has made a difference and will be able to save the gorillas, tragedy strikes. Costing Dian her life, though she is memorialized as a hero and a savior of the gorillas.

Not only was the acting in this film remarkable, since I felt that Sigourney Weaver strongly took on the role of Dian Fossey ...

with everything she had, but that the story line was very inspiring. This woman, who really didn’t have to travel to South America, wanted to make a difference in the Gorilla habitat. She had a passion for it and went after what she wanted with everything. She stood for what she believed in and that is definitely something that can
be admired. It also gives further insight on the situation of poachers and how they affect the natural environment and animal life surrounding it.

I feel that this movie should at least be given a chance, and that those who are skeptical as I was, should try and see past their skepticism to enjoy this wonderful film that is sure to inspire.
