BSNL stand for Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited. It is Government controlled Communications service provider in India. Probably the biggest one.

There has been lots of complaints about BSNL customer services. Truth be told, BSNL does not have the best Customer Service. This is mainly because it is under government and we all know how government workers are like.

I have always used BSNL services when it comes to landline and Broadband. I was one of the first ones to use BSNL broadband in Jaipur, Rajasthan back in 2005 when

it was just launched. I don’t have many complaints with the service.

Among other communication services, BSNL offers cellular services at a rate competitive to other service providers. I have been using the cellular service of BSNL for the past 5 years in Jaipur. There are two types of payment system. One is Prepaid, also known as Pay as you Go and the other one is Postpaid also known as contract. In India, there is no contract system. If you choose Postpaid service, you get the monthly bill, but ...

      • you can stop the service anytime by writing to the service provider.

With BSNL Postpaid Cellular service, you need to provide them with address proof and identity proof. The documents which can be used as address proof include Passport, Driving License, Tax Payment, Landline Phone bill, etc. Once you choose the monthly payment plan, you just fill the application form indicating your choice, submit it to the office along with your address and pay security deposit. You will be given a SIM card which will then be activated within

        7 days.

Customer Service is another story. Like I have already mentioned before, BSNL does not have a good Customer Service. It is difficult to get through to their helpline when you need them. It is a good idea to have the phone number of the local office’s head officer along with the linesmen attending to your area. Make yourself known to them and be nice to them. Though I have to say, in my 5 years of using BSNL cellular services, not once do I have to call the customer care.
