  • Musically, the song maintains a similar tempo throughout, although it does slow down towards the end, but the frequent transitions between the heavy and distorted parts certainly balance the more acoustic and melodic parts so the dynamics of the song certainly keep it from getting boring

Highway Song is a song by System Of A Down which appears on their third album, Steal This Album. The track opens up with a medium paced tempo, but very aggressive and heavy guitar work from Daron Malakian.

Abruptly, the track transitions into a much more melodic section where Malakian trades in the distorted guitar patterns for a more acoustic riff where Serj Tankian comes in with a fairly melodic vocal melody as well.

      Though many fans

were critical of the dual lead vocal performance from Tankian and Malakian on later System Of A Down records, the two share many parts on this song and I personally think they sound great together.

Though Tankian takes lead throughout the majority of this track, the portions where he harmonizes with Malakian truly sound great, for my tastes at least.

Though Steal This Album never truly stuck out to me before recently, I find myself enjoying this ...

      • album more and more due to how great Tankian and Malakian sound together in harmonies on various tracks.

Musically, the song maintains a similar tempo throughout, although it does slow down towards the end, but the frequent transitions between the heavy and distorted parts certainly balance the more acoustic and melodic parts so the dynamics of the song certainly keep it from getting boring.

Though the vocal melody may not be as catchy as some other System

Of A Down songs, this track truly has no major flaws to it and I see no reason why a System fan would have problems enjoying this track.

The lyrics also don’t jump out to me as great as some of System Of A Down’s lyrics either, but I don’t have any major complaints here.

Though each individual section may not have anything too special about it, the song comes together nicely in the end to create a very solid track.
