  • Right from the opening, you hear an incredibly chaotic and energy guitar riff which has the characteristic youthful sound of Vampire Weekend, but it’s far more chaotic in my opinion
  • I believe one of the main reasons I like this track is simply because of the very hectic and chaotic sound you can hear in it, but Vampire Weekend still maintaining the ability to have a very coherent, and catchy, melody throughout the track which certainly doesn’t make it difficult to listen to
  • Though the structure of the track is very simple, as are basically all of Vampire Weekend’s tracks, the song doesn’t draw boring for two reasons

Cousins is a song by Vampire Weekend which appears on their second record, Contra. Right from the opening, you hear an incredibly chaotic and energy guitar riff which has the characteristic youthful sound of Vampire Weekend, but it’s far more chaotic in my opinion.

Surprisingly, the band comes up with a vocal melody which fits nicely with this chaotic feeling established by the rest of the band in the introduction of the song.

      Though Contra was

a fairly weak album in my opinion, Cousins was certainly one of the few tracks to stand out to me as a fairly strong track on the album.

I believe one of the main reasons I like this track is simply because of the very hectic and chaotic sound you can hear in it, but Vampire Weekend still maintaining the ability to have a very coherent, and catchy, melody throughout the track which certainly doesn’t make ...

      • it difficult to listen to.

Though the structure of the track is very simple, as are basically all of Vampire Weekend’s tracks, the song doesn’t draw boring for two reasons.

The first reason this track doesn’t draw boring is because of the very energetic feeling that I talked about earlier, and second because the track is extremely short at only about two and a half minutes.

Thankfully, Vampire Weekend knew that this was not one of

the tracks that they should drag out to fill up a longer length.

Though the songwriting on this track isn’t brilliant, you certainly get a wonderful feeling of youthful energy throughout the song and a feeling of what Vampire Weekend sounds like.

Though Contra overall was a pretty weak record, Cousins would certainly be one of the few tracks from the record that’s worth listening to.

A solid and energetic track overall and one certainly worth checking out.
