  • Typically, I tend to avoid recommending singles as being songs to listen to if a fan wants a representation of the band, but Holiday is a different case
  • A hidden gem on Contra, Holiday is one of the very few tracks on that album which I still consider worth listening to so it’s certainly a standout track on an album full of basically average songs

Holiday is a song by Vampire Weekend which appears on their second album, Contra. Though I’m sure many listeners are already familiar with this song due to the advertisement from Honda as well as various other companies and possibly the radio playing it so often, it’s still a fun song to listen to now and then.

The main thing I can stress about Holiday is that this song is incredibly catchy as long as a listener listens

      to it in moderation.

Typically, I tend to avoid recommending singles as being songs to listen to if a fan wants a representation of the band, but Holiday is a different case.

Because Vampire Weekend typically thrives on these very catchy songs, Holiday is actually a fair representation of what the band is like.

The reason I typically don’t advocate listening to singles for a representation of a band is because singles are written with the intent ...

      • to be catchy songs.

However, Vampire Weekend is different because they’re a band which strikes me as thriving on catchy songs rather than songwriting which would sometimes cause their songs to get more complex and less accessible, I feel like a lot of this is because they’ve only released two records and they’re still just young kids.

Holiday is driven by a catchy synthesizer part and an equally catchy vocal melody throughout the entire track.

        If you’re

a listener trying to get into Vampire Weekend, Holiday would be a wonderful pick because not only is it a good song in itself, but it’s also a track which is a pretty good representation of what Vampire Weekend typically sounds like.

A hidden gem on Contra, Holiday is one of the very few tracks on that album which I still consider worth listening to so it’s certainly a standout track on an album full of basically average songs.
