  • Thankfully, Radiohead doesn’t drag out something good and they manage to gradually change the track’s mood so that it keeps a fairly similar atmosphere throughout the song, but not similar enough to where it just sounds monotonous and gets boring even when just halfway through

Go Slowly is a song by Radiohead which appears on their 2007 release, In Rainbows. The track opens up with a very melodic section led by a clean guitar and other instrumentation to accompany it.

Right from the start, any listener slightly familiar with Radiohead should be able to tell that the atmosphere established here sets up a perfect tone for Thom Yorke’s voice and he does not disappoint.

Yorke enters with the first verse singing with an

extremely delicate and gentle tone in a fairly high pitch that manages the very calm and melodic atmosphere that has been established throughout the intro of this song.

Though the track never loses its melodic aspect, the track does pick up as it progressively goes along which is certainly a good thing.

Though I really do enjoy the very calm and quiet atmosphere that surrounds the first minute and a half of the song or so, I don’t ...

      • think I’d be able to really listen to a four minute song where this is the only atmosphere existing.

Thankfully, Radiohead doesn’t drag out something good and they manage to gradually change the track’s mood so that it keeps a fairly similar atmosphere throughout the song, but not similar enough to where it just sounds monotonous and gets boring even when just halfway through.

If you’re not a big fan of Radiohead I don’t believe Go Slowly would

really be a song you’d enjoy too much simply because it’s a song driven primarily by atmosphere rather than the actual songwriting.

Go Slowly also has nothing about it which makes it a particularly accessible track, though if you’re desiring music with a very calm atmosphere to it, Go Slowly would be an excellent pick.

Overall, the atmosphere which Radiohead establishes throughout the song is excellent, but it may be a track which takes a few listens to really appreciate.
