  • I wouldn’t recommend Mansard Roof, or really any Vampire Weekend for that matter, if you’re a listener who wants to hear something which is musically brilliant or incredible songwriting

Mansard Roof is the opening track of Vampire Weekend’s self-titled debut record. The song opens up with a definitive rhythm and catchy vocal melody before gradually building up until it really picks up around thirty seconds in and establishes a driving rhythm.

What I particularly like about Mansard Roof, and basically all of Vampire Weekend’s songs, is that it carries such a new and youthful energy to it which I feel like so much modern music

      is lacking.

Though I wasn’t too familiar with Vampire Weekend, Mansard Roof opening up this particular album certainly made me confident and excited to hear more of them, and their first album certainly didn’t disappoint.

Vampire Weekend makes use of traditional rock instrumentation, but they also utilize outside instrumentation which is another nice factor of this band because there is at least a bit of experimentation to cover for the fairly predictable structures and traditional songwriting.

      • Though Vampire Weekend may not have anything extremely complex on this track, it seems to be a song which thrives on energy and I can certainly appreciate it for that.

I wouldn’t recommend Mansard Roof, or really any Vampire Weekend for that matter, if you’re a listener who wants to hear something which is musically brilliant or incredible songwriting.

However, if you want to listen to a song from a band who knows how to write

catchy melodies and put together fairly simple parts to make a very good whole, Mansard Roof would certainly be a good pick.

Another point about Vampire Weekend is that they showed so much potential throughout all of their entire debut record and Mansard Roof still manages to be one of the top tracks to stand out to me from that record so I certainly do urge anyone trying to embrace this band to listen to this track.
