Written in the 1960’s this timeless cult classic revolves around the lives of three female characters who are involved within the entertainment industry in America. The central theme is focused around fame and the way it affects lives, with a decent amount of romance thrown in for good measure.

The ‘Dolls’ refer to the pills these three women start taking initially to help them sleep, but in the end to escape from

the fake world they find themselves immersed in resulting in disaterous consequences.

Despite this book first being published in 1966, the content is more relevent then ever to today’s ‘fame culture’.

Susan has captured the whole notion of ‘celebrity’ perfectly - that despite being popular, beautiful and wealthy, deep inside they are truly lonely and unhappy.

This is clearly reflected in today’s society, where actors and singers are often seen going into rehab, the ...

      • pressure for these people is just too much.

Packed full of love, lust and fear, this book has plenty for the average reader to relate to, whilst also providing escapism and an in-depth insight into showbiz industry in the 60’s.

The pressures on women, the men, the fame the fortune and the glamour of it all make this book so intreguing.

You really do sympathize with the three women, what they have to

go through to get to where they are and after all that struggle there is no where left for them to go apart from the ‘Valley Of The Dolls’.

This really is must read for women of all ages, or infact anyone with a remote interest in the entertainment industry.

Dig out the ice cream, put on the pajama’s, turn off the mobile and curl up with Valley Of The Dolls, you won’t regret it.
