  • I mean, this is such a common plot that there have been multiple tv shows, I think, that feature someone who through some event in their life can speak to ghosts or dead people and then have to help them with something
  • Ricky Gervais is hilarious as Bertram Pincus,a person who barely even likes the living - and so definitely doesn't care to interact with the dead

Ghost Town is one of those movies where the story is so familiar that you already know what is going to have even if you are only given a little bit of the plot. (I found this with Avatar as well). I mean, this is such a common plot that there have been multiple tv shows, I think, that feature someone who through some event in their life can speak to

ghosts or dead people and then have to help them with something. Although a colonscopy is particularly embarrassing.

The feature that makes Ghost Town so watch-able is the acting. Ricky Gervais is hilarious as Bertram Pincus,a person who barely even likes the living - and so definitely doesn’t care to interact with the dead. And Tea Leoni was great - she was very cute. Actually, I think all the actors did ...

      • well in this movie. This is what made the movie, because the characters were the funny part - the events were just sort of there.

Ghost Town was a really funny movie because of the way the main character interacted with the other characters - and, in fact, with everyone. His avoidance of everybody was comical. Normal things like an encounter with strangers or having to talk to patients really bother him.

The storyline was kind of unexpected in that if he didn’t like anybody, why would he fall in love? (Although that’s been done before too, like in As Good As it Gets).

I think that even though they didn’t use an original story, the contrast between the desperation of the ghosts, whose only go-between is the unlucky Bertram, and Bertram, who avoids people and celebrations as much as he can without appearing too rude.
