  • This item cost me almost thirty dollars and I didn't feel at all like the cake plate and dome was worth that kind of money
  • Although I only had one problem with this cake plate and dome, it was a big enough problem that led me to return it for a refund
  • It's elegant design was the reason I bought it in the first place
  • Even if accidentally lightly bumped, the cake plate and dome didn't actually fall over, at least, which wasn't surprising considering I recall the box stating that it weighed ten pounds or so, so it was on the heavy side for a cake plate and dome, but the heaviness helped to contribute to its sturdiness, at least to an extent, I think
  • Even if this cake plate with dome would've only cost me ten dollars, I still would've returned it because without the dome cover, there was no reason for me to keep it as I was purposely looking for both a cake plate and a dome cover to keep over it when the cake wasn't being enjoyed

I was pretty displeased with the Studio Silversmiths Etched Glass Cake Plate with Dome. This item cost me almost thirty dollars and I didn’t feel at all like the cake plate and dome was worth that kind of money. Although I only had one problem with this cake plate and dome, it was a big enough problem that led me to return it for a refund. It’s a cake plate and dome, so obviously it’s a two-piece set. There’s the plate portion and the dome portion. The plate section I didn’t have any issues with, but the dome, or cover, didn’t fit the plate well at all. The dome was apparently made with measurements that were too wide and thus didn’t fit into the circular grove that extended around the plate. Since the dome didn’t fit into the grove, it had a tendency to slide and when it slid too far too far to one side, one side would hit and press up

against the cake, thus getting frosting all over the inside of the dome and thus making the cake less desirable as there wouldn’t be as much frosting left on the cake. This was too constant of a problem to ignore and it was one that I wasn’t willing to put up with, so I made the decision to return it and I haven’t missed it since.

Although I disliked the design flaw of this cake plate and dome far too much to keep it, it was an attractively designed cake plate and dome. It’s elegant design was the reason I bought it in the first place. I really liked how there were curves and ripples on the glass and it’s silver crystal color was very easy on the eyes. The round nob on top of the dome was easy to grab a hold of and lift up and the base that the plate rested on seemed very sturdy. Even if accidentally lightly bumped, the ...

      • cake plate and dome didn’t actually fall over, at least, which wasn’t surprising considering I recall the box stating that it weighed ten pounds or so, so it was on the heavy side for a cake plate and dome, but the heaviness helped to contribute to its sturdiness, at least to an extent, I think. I had no trouble placing typical box cakes on the cake plate and covering the cakes with the dome, but as I mentioned already, the fact that the dome failed to line up with the grove in the plate made the dome prone to sliding and that led to problems. My opinion of this cake plate and dome would’ve been a great deal higher if it had been designed with the proper measurements and care so that the dome cover wouldn’t slide.

The Studio Silversmiths Etched Glass Cake Plate with Dome is not something that I would recommend to a person in search of something attractive to display a

cake on and keep covered when not being served. I would however recommend the Godinger Stratford Covered Cake Plate. It costs about twice as much as this cake plate and dome, but it’s designed so that the dome doesn’t bump into the sides of the cake and it’s very attractive, too. As for the Studio Silversmiths product, it’s not something that I can rate any higher than a “3″ due to the poor design which lead to the dome cover not fitting properly over the cake plate. Everything else about it I liked, but the positive qualities really ended up being overshadowed by the big flaw which simply couldn’t be overlooked. Even if this cake plate with dome would’ve only cost me ten dollars, I still would’ve returned it because without the dome cover, there was no reason for me to keep it as I was purposely looking for both a cake plate and a dome cover to keep over it when the cake wasn’t being enjoyed.
