Blue Valentine is one of those movies that show that in reality you can find the best things. Not in the rich imaginations of people. This film is fiction, but it’s very detailed, so you can forget it’s fiction, it captured the essence of reality extremely well.

It’s a scene where the two protagonists are arguing in the car and filmed sequentially in the back as they shot replicas from one to another. Dean

(played by Ryan Gosling) and Cindy (played by Michelle Williams) are newlyweds who are struggling with problems of the couple and they are also dealing with raising their daughter Frankie.

The film shows the beginning and the end of their relationship for six years, alternating between past and present scenes. The two narrative threads go well together, until each reaches its climax.

Dean is the type of a funny man. Some people just ...

      • have that light around them.

He is dreamy and idealistic. But she’s pragmatic and, at times, his behavior appears to her as being childish.

She’s a nurse that wants to be a doctor and she deceives herself with hopes that come from a doctor that is perhaps too kind. It is known that the director Derek Cianfrance worked on this film 12 years.

He wrote, rewrote, with two screenwriters, until it seemed perfect. He

made a very interesting thing: when they filmed scenes from the past, when they fall in love, the actors were barely known each other.

He wanted that the meeting between Dean and Cindy to appear more natural. I think that the director kind of succeeded in doing what he wanted.

The actors where also very good in this movie, making it very believable. Before you see the movie be careful not to read some spoilers because it would be a shame.
