Besito, which is Spanish for “little kiss”, is an excellent Mexican restaurant that serves the cuisine at it’s absolute finest. Chef Matthew Lake has joined forces with restauranteur John Turney III in order to liberate Mexican cuisine from the mass market it has come to be associated with due to fast food chains such as Taco Bell. This place really makes not only Mexican cuisine, but food in general exciting again, with a rare combination of earthy colors and powerful flavors.

The excitement begins the moment you sit down, with a show being put on right in front of your very table. Request guacamole and it is actually prepared table side with the smashing of avocados

with a lava stone molcajete. You can choose to have your guacamole prepared on the spicy side, which I highly recommend if you can handle it. This place has won awards for Best Mexican, Best Mojito, Best Margarita and Best Chef.

The freshly made guacamole is the perfect way to start your meal. It goes perfect with one of Besito’s award winning margaritas. I recommend the Besito Patron Margarita. They have a full menu of tequilas. The soap de tortilla is absolutely excellent, made with avocado, pulled chicken, quasi chihuahua, chopped cilantro and toasted pasilla chile. It is served in a gigantic bowl for $8, well worth the price.

For an appetizer, the flautas de pollo are ...

      • delicious. They are crispy chicken tacos topped with queso fresco, crema, salsa verde crud a and salsa guajillo, priced incredibly reasonably at $8. The flavors of the salsa verde crud a and the salsa guajillo are perfect.

As far as entrees go, the tacos de res cannot be beat. Grilled skirt steak with melted chihuahua cheese, pico de gallo, tomato, jalapeño and cascabel salsas combine to create amazing, unforgettable flavor. The jalapeño salsa provides the perfect intensity of heat to the dish. It is very reasonably priced at $19. Budin de Mariscos is an excellent choice as well. It is a tortilla pie of shrimp and jumbo lump crab layered in a tomato salsa and baked

with a poblano cream sauce. The lump crab meat was sweet and delicious. This dish is priced at $22. Besito also has a dish called callos y camarones, which is a grilled shrimp and scallops dish with tres chile salsa and mashed came. The scallops taste incredibly fresh and are corked to perfection. This dish is priced at $25, and well worth it.

Everything at Besito tastes incredibly fresh and flavorful every component of the meal is truly perfect. This place was formerly known as Lola’s, but has been remodeled in a bright, sunny color, decorated with appropriate artwork and the look is completed by a eucalyptus ceiling. The atmosphere, the food and the service are all equally impeccable.
