  • There is another very useful feature, at least in my opinion, a mirror lock-up option as its name suggests this feature allows the camera to lock the mirror in the up position before actually taking the picture
  • I think that this is the best DSLR camera in this price range that I have ever seen
  • I can’t recommend you to buy this camera if you want to shoot videos with it because it won’t make to good of a job, if you want to buy it for photographing purposes it is the best in its category
  • In conclusion the Nikon D7000 is the greatest DSLR that you can find in its price range, and has lots and lots of useful and interesting features add to that an extra SD card slot and a resolution of 16MP

Here is a review of the Nikon D7000, which is the successor of the well known D90, and it is a mid range DSLR.

Similar to its predecessor Nikon is going to charge a little bit more for this camera and in return but you won’t be sorry to pay extra because you will get some super features.

Let us take a look at the physical design of the Nikon D7000 and its controls.

The Nikon D7000 actually measures approximately the same as its predecessor, the D90. Also the D7000 only weighs 80 grams more than the D90 that is due to the fact that Nikon decided to fit magnesium alloy upper and rear plate that give the D7000 a little bit of extra strength over the older model and over the competition. It is not completely magnesium alloy like on a semi pro body but it is a little bit tougher.

Keeping the new and the old model in my hands, I didn’t notice any change in terms of weight, so those 80 grams really do not matter.

The build quality feels extremely good. The grip on the D7000 like all Nikon DSLR cameras has a really nice indentation for your fingertips and it feels very good and safe in your hands.

What I would have liked from Nikon is a fully articulated screen,

like on some of its competitors, for example Canon offers a camera in the same price range and category with this type of a feature.

Now don’t get me wrong the Nikon body has its advantages. The D7000 is equipped with not one but two memory card slots.

There are also differences concerning the optical view finders, the older model, has a optical view finder with 96 percent coverage that is fairly typical for a medium range DSLR. There are also pentaprism models so the view is nice and bright. However Nikon has decided to increase the performances on the D7000 with an optical view finder that covers 100% view coverage and that means that what you see through the view finder is exactly what you are going to capture. To be sincere I wouldn’t have expected not in a million years to find 100% view coverage on a mid range DSLR. This feature is usually reserved for the semi pro and pro cameras, but Nikon did it again.

As I said earlier I will tell you a few stuff about the Nikon D7000’s controls. On the upper left side of the body you will find the main mode dial which of course offers controls like: program, shutter, four manual modes. Also you will find two user modes that allow you to actually save your ...

      • custom settings for example the flash or exposure compensations. There is also a sync position that gives you access to 19 sync presets using the screen, next to that is a flash off mode, and fully automatic mode. There is a dedicated dial for the release mode and to adjust that you need to press the near button. Press and hold that down and turn it from single to CL, that is Continuous Slow and it is for continuous shooting that you specify using the menus. Next to CL, is the CH, this is a setting you use if you want to shoot with the D7000 at its maximum six frames per second, along side that is the quiet shooting mode, and after that is the self timer setting. Another setting for use with the optional ML-L3 infrared remote control.

There is another very useful feature, at least in my opinion, a mirror lock-up option as its name suggests this feature allows the camera to lock the mirror in the up position before actually taking the picture.

The upper right side of the body is dominated by an LCD information screen, that helps you very much because of the vast information that is displayed.

Now I could go on and on about the settings that this camera allows you to do but I really can’t

see the point of that because by now I am pretty sure that everybody gets how good this camera is.

The sharpness of the photos is outstanding. I think that this is the best DSLR camera in this price range that I have ever seen.

The overall quality of the taken photos is more than what you could ask for, I won’t begin getting into technicalities because I am not an expert when it comes to cameras, but even an untrained eye can see the quality that the Nikon D7000 provides.

I can’t recommend you to buy this camera if you want to shoot videos with it because it won’t make to good of a job, if you want to buy it for photographing purposes it is the best in its category.

Regarding the autonomy of the Nikon’s battery I think that it is better than good. I got somewhere around 3500 photos on a single charge. But this happened after I already played with the settings.

In conclusion the Nikon D7000 is the greatest DSLR that you can find in its price range, and has lots and lots of useful and interesting features add to that an extra SD card slot and a resolution of 16MP. But as I stated before if you are thinking on shooting videos take your video camera with you because the D7000 is not made for that.
