  • I am happy to declare that Awaken The Guardian by Fates Warning is one of, if not THE best progressive metal in the history of the genre
  • The problem is that sometimes i get to an album and fall in love with it all over again and everything else listen to for a few days following that seems stale in comparison
  • That's definitely what happened the other day when a had a fresh listen to this album
  • The sound scape it creates, the though provoking lyrics, the interesting vocals and the constantly shifting set pieces drive this album right into my skull every time
  • I recommend this album to any serious music fan that for some reason is yet to hear it, especially all the younger mob that think bands like Dream Theater invented the progressive metal genre

Well, here it is folks….. I am happy to declare that Awaken The Guardian by Fates Warning is one of, if not THE best progressive metal in the history of the genre.

At the moment i am trying to quickly re-listen to each and every one the albums that i own across all formats. This may well be an impossible task as i own thousands of albums, but it’s certainly fun to do. The problem is

that sometimes i get to an album and fall in love with it all over again and everything else listen to for a few days following that seems stale in comparison.

That’s definitely what happened the other day when a had a fresh listen to this album. The sound scape it creates, the though provoking lyrics, the interesting vocals and the constantly shifting set pieces drive this album right into my skull every time. Even just the first ...

      • two tracks together The Sorceress and Valley Of The Dolls is more genius than most other bands accomplish in an entire career, but add those to the same album as some of my all-time favorite prog songs like Guardian and Exodus and there’s just no way i could possibly find a fault with it.

I recommend this album to any serious music fan that for some reason is yet to hear it, especially all the younger mob that

think bands like Dream Theater invented the progressive metal genre. Every time i listen to this album i feel better about the whole concept of music all together and that some pretty strong stuff right there. i just wish that there were more albums like this one, especially from the same band. But the fact is Fates warning set the bar so high with this one that even they never came close to topping it ever again.
