  • Since falling for this album i have delved a bit further into his back catalog and even though there were some gems there, this is clearly his best overall piece of work and something i would recommend to anybody
  • Windows Are Rolled Down is a more upbeat tune but still very soul inspired vocally, Flower is classic Stax Records sounding Memphis soul, Stay With Me sounds almost like a Maroon five ballad from before they turned rubbish, Hello again is a mixture of soul, jazz and flamenco music and is a great example of the power of Lee's voice and the final amazing highlight comes in a duet with Lucinda Williams and is a great mixture of soul and country music
  • Obviously from what i have written so far it would seem that i liked this album, and that is absolutely correct, Mission Bell is one of the musical highlights for me so far this year and i think i'll be playing it for a long time to come

For the last few days i have been listening to the upcoming album from Amos Lee titled Mission Bell. At first i wasn’t too sure how i’d go with it as i had never really heard of him before, but i have an eternal quest to discover artists and keep an open mind.

While to the simplest term to describe what Amos Lee does is singer/songwriter material, that simple tag really doesn’t do justice to what goodies can be found on this album.

He also adds a very strong element of soul music and also some slight delta blues and rnb influences to top it off. But part of Lee’s charm is being able to mince all of these influences into a single cohesive style that is somewhere in between say Ben Harper and Al Green. Since falling for this album i have delved a bit further into his back catalog and even though there were some gems there, this is clearly his best overall ...

Opening track El Camino should be enough incentive for anybody to want to delve further in and in doing so you will run into several more great highlights.
