  • From the cast of misfits who have banded together to save the boondocks they call home, the thirst they have to find buried treasure underneath the town of Astoria (where they live), or the adventure that I think might just be every kids deep secret dream, this film is entertaining and very uniquely conducted so that there is no room for boredom or an urge to turn off the TV

The 1985 film “The Goonies” is one that I have now referred to as an “addiction film”. What I mean by that term is simply this, that the film (for reasons unknown) is one that I cannot help but fall in love with. From the cast of misfits who have banded together to save the boondocks they call home, the thirst they have to find buried treasure underneath the town of Astoria (where

they live), or the adventure that I think might just be every kids deep secret dream, this film is entertaining and very uniquely conducted so that there is no room for boredom or an urge to turn off the TV.

Mikey, a group of his friends, his older brother Bran, Bran’s “girlfriend” and his girlfriends friend all find themselves running from murderers. The Fratelli’s, which consist of a mother and two sons. They follow a map they found in Mikey’s attic to find One Eyed Willies buried treasure and keep their homes in the boondocks from being turned into apartment buildings and strip malls and country clubs. They call themselves “The Goonies”. When the Fratelli’s find out what they are up to, they follow them down the hole in a closed for the season restaurant to find the treasure themselves. And not only do the Goonies find ...

the treasure from One Eyed Willies pirate ship, but help to bring the Fratelli’s into custody and restore the boondocks so that none of them have to move away.

Every character of this band of misfits is unique and plays a large role into the creation of a family fun adventure in this film. Searching for buried treasure is many kids dreams, and being able to watch it on screen, where not only do

they find the treasure but they are able to bring the bad guys in makes for a great movie. Why it’s family fun is because it’s not strictly for kids, there are qualities about the film that can be appreciated by all age groups. A mature audience will still fall in love with the group of Goonies who are trying to save their home, and will find their adventure a joy to watch.
