I like the concept for New Moon, the second movie episode of the famous Twilight saga based on the Stephenie Meyer bunch of vampire novels, which are causing such a stir in the movie and literary worlds. The reason for the New Moon title is that Bella, the teenager who yearns to be transformed into a vampire herself by her lover Edward, is that the two break up. Edward decides that it is not worth it for Bella to forsake her mortality and lead a life as a

      doomed immortal like himself.

The phase of a new moon is always the longest in the lunar cycle, and this is akin to Bella’s depression after the break up. This Twilight episode is also the Romeo and Juliet part of the saga, as Edward thought that his ex-girlfriend had committed suicide, so he thinks it was time for him to die as well. Bella also gets the chance to look at the other side of the equation, by reconnecting with her high school mate Jacob, who becomes a werewolf.

      • Thus, if the first Twilight movie was an introduction to the life of vampires, New Moon is about the secret life of n werewolves.

Although the special effects are not good enough, they are still fine by most standards. I just love it when they poke fun at the stinky smell of a werewolf, making fun of how Jacob smells whenever he gets transformed. I think his acting was good, although he suffers from some disturbing accent. However, it is not bad for an actor who is just getting

        started with his career.

In summary, this Twilight installment is consistent with the ethos of the first. In any series, I find that the most difficult thing to do is to maintain the look and feel of the entire franchise, but so far this particular one has had no trouble with it. I found Bella to be truly awkward at times or even clumsy, but such performance is only consistent with her character in the film. So if you ask, New Moon is well executed and true to the Twilight form.
