World of Warcraft launched in November 2004, and now a mer six years later boasts a userbase of 11-million, and has just launched its most recent and arguably most ambitious expansion pack, World of Warcraft Cataclysm.

The most notable additions to the World of Warcraft with Cataclsym include two new races with brand new starting areas, The Worgen (Alliance) and Goblin (Horde) and increased level cap of 85, and a a revamp to most of the games original outdoor areas. (which was implemented with a patch a week prior to

      the release of Cataclsym.)

Unlike the games first two expansion packs The Burning Crusade, and Wrath of the Lich King, Cataclsym is not only geared towards players with an already level capped character, but also towards players just discovering the immense world of Azeroth. Early level content created in 2004 for the launch of the game has been greatly overhauled and revamped to keep the game fresh and up to par with it’s higher level brethren. The Worgen and Goblin areas both feature an epic new take on starting a ...

      • new character. No longer are you sent to save the world from the local rabbit population, you are doing something meaningfull and epic in scale.

As important as low level content is in Cataclysm, an expansion just wouldn’t be an expansion without filling the plates of the faithfull level capped, raid hungry playerbase. Not only does Cataclsym introduce a bevy of new zones to level to 85 in, but also features a number of new raid dungeons, and heroic versions of 5 mans. But be warned, these dungeons aren’t for

the faint of heart. Blizzard has dramatically increased the difficulty compared to Wrath of Lich King. Cataclysm is more of a throwback to the classic days of world of Warcraft where players had to use crowd controle abilities to succeed.

Over the years Blizzard has done a fantastic job of keeping an old formula fresh, and improving. If you have yet to play World of Warcraft, Cataclysm makes this a prime time to lose yourself in Azeroth.
