  • It has such an amazing topic, the subject of raising and educating individuals who are little Mozarts, like the so-called Little Man Tate in the film, who I think has that eidetic memory
  • As such, the little man’s personality lends itself as the poster boy for the green movement, which I like to the hilt
  • But most of all, I think I love this film because it poses the premise, which is more effective at nurturing a baby genius, is it an instinctive mother’s love

To-date, I have watched Little Man Tate three times. It has such an amazing topic, the subject of raising and educating individuals who are little Mozarts, like the so-called Little Man Tate in the film, who I think has that eidetic memory. There is a very tasty twist though as our little boy genius is terribly environmentally conscious as in he cannot sleep at night just imagining all the water in the world that goes to waste. As such, the little man’s personality lends itself as the

poster boy for the green movement, which I like to the hilt.

For once, my favorite actress, the multi-awarded Jodie Foster takes the backstage, playing a supporting role to her boy’s genius, which should be guarded only too well, lest it does not last. As the audience knows only too well, a prodigy might have a short life. But most of all, I think I love this film because it poses the premise, which is more effective at nurturing a baby genius, is it an instinctive mother’s love; or ...

      • is it an experienced, academic genius nurturer who has no clue about intimacy?

Who wins and who loses out, of course, I will not tell you. Why, you might end up not watching the film at all. Suffice it to say that someone does wins out in the end, that should be enough clue. Acting is just terrific here, both camps are literally playing a tug of war, and the little boy is not bad either, I often wondered if he was really a boy genius or not.

        There

are so many touching parts in this film, too many to tug at a good parent’s heartstrings. In fact, sooner or later this motion picture winds down as a lasting documentary about good parenting. At the same time, it offers a great window upon which to catch a glimpse of how young geniuses live or what sets them apart from us common people. Or maybe, just maybe we could have all been geniuses had not someone missed out on the proper way of bringing us all up.
