The movie True Grit is a story about a girl named Mattie Ross (Hailee Steinfeld), whose father was shot and killed by the outlaw Tom Chaney (Josh Brolin). The girl then proceeds to hunt down Chaney, along with the help of Rooster Cogburn (Jeff Bridges) and Texas Ranger LaBouef (Matt Damon). The whole tale is narrated by the grown-up Mattie Ross (Elizabeth Marvel) and is very reminiscent of the great Western movies from the past. Many believe that this is a remake of the old True Grit movie starring John Wayne from

1969, but it is actually a novel-to-film adaptation from the book written by Charles Portis in 1968.

This movie, while not being very much like the other Coen Brothers films (The Big Lebowski, Fargo, O Brother Where Art Thou) is still a wonderful movie by itself. I have never really seen very many Western movies, but this movie is making me want to get into the genre, and explore it all more. • amount of chemistry between each other. The young Mattie, Hailee Steinfeld, was a wondeful young actress; she had a quality most actors her age don’t have. She will no doubt be a very great actress later in life.

The comedy was perfectly placed; not too often, but not non-existent. The most comedic moments I felt were between Jeff Bridges and Matt Damon–these two are great at working off of each other, and the characters match so perfectly in their time spent together. And all of the random minor characters were just as unforgettable

as all of the major ones! This is a quality I find awesome in all of the Coen Brothers Films.

In the end, I’ll definitely recommend that you go see this movie. My only warning is to be prepared to twists in your seat, for a few reasons during the movie!

What I loved most: The style The Comedy The Action The Actors The Constant-Guessing

What I didn’t like: Some of the gruesome parts. It’s not that it made the movie bad though, it made it better! It was realistic and made me cringe, a wonderful addition to this well-rounded film.
