  • The first problem was the hard drive really only had 67 free GB of space, which filled up quickly
  • Overall my experience with the computer has been good, but not excellent
  • I wouldn’t really recommend this computer to anyone as the technology is 4 years out of date and better laptops can be purchased for a cheaper price

In my freshmen year, my high school implemented a laptop program, where each student received a laptop to use for school related activities during the school day. As we were purchasing a large number of computers we got a special deal from Lenovo and everyone received the same Lenovo Thinkpad R61e.

The computer came standard with a 1.8 GHz processor, 1GB of ram and a 80 GB hard drive. The first problem was the hard drive really only had 67 free GB of space, which filled up quickly. Soon I had less than a full GB of space

left. Also, the computer comes preloaded with many different “helpful” Lenovo programs that just slow down the computer. Physically I have had two different problems with the computer. First, my keyboard broke. The spacebar key actually got stuck and I had to hit it really hard to get a space. Second, the fan started making a loud noise anytime my computer was on a functioning. While it didn’t affect performance of the computer, it was annoying to hear anytime I wanted to use my computer. While I have not personally had these problems, several of my classmates had ...

      • experienced problems with their batteries and power chords. A few had disk drives that got stuck.

There were some good things as well though. Lenovo customer service is excellent. Both of my physical computer problems got fixed very quickly. I simply had to call up and tell them my problem. A box would be at my house the next day. I put my computer in the box and mailed it using prepaid overnight shipping. They fixed it and it was back in my hands just a few days later. Any problems anyone in my school has had were

        dealt with quickly and professionally.

Overall my experience with the computer has been good, but not excellent. The size of the computer, the speed and the storage space left something to be desired. Problems with the computer are to be expected and they were handled quite well by Lenovo customer service, so they can be forgiven. I wouldn’t really recommend this computer to anyone as the technology is 4 years out of date and better laptops can be purchased for a cheaper price. However, if you want a used computer that has solid functionality with a few upgrades this computer would do.
