The doctors used to say that thumb sucking is normal for some years for any child. This habit is coming due to depression .

But in case of my daughter she

continued to suck her thumb for 2 1/2 years.

Many told us to divert her mind whenever she feels like .

      But it didn’t work.

After some time her thumb got ...

      • affected by fungus due to continuous wet on that place.

Later we seriously discussed this matter with Doctor.

Then Doctor Suggested that to apply a solution called FEMITE , an ointment

We applies on her thumb like a nail polish .

Though she cried for some time due to the vary bad taste of ointment, surprised she stopped this habit immediately after that.

We had the same problem with my nephew and absolutely nothing worked. You could put anything on his finger and he would still suck it off so instead we took a glove and cut off all of the fingers except for the one he was sucking and have him wear it all the time. It works great for him, he thinks its cool to wear and even asks for it if we forget to put it on him. Just another suggestion for anyone having the same problem.

Jennifer, that sounds like a great idea Never thought of it…. My cousin used to suck his thumb so the dentist put a plate in the roof of his mouth I think your method is cheaper, yet more effective BTW he sucked right past the plate

I think gloves is still not the best solution. Sucking fingers, even with gloves, can be infectious. It also won’t help baby to quit sucking fingers. And, you can’t put gloves all the time. It will be better if you try it in a gentle psychological manner. Praising him when he is not sucking, gentle reminder and identifying the triggers and solving them can be useful.
