Wilder Mountain is the name for the mountain where the old town of Wilder Tennessee is. It is off Hwy 85 between Monterey and Clarkrange TN.

Wilder used to be a coal mining town but when the mine went out of business most of the town became like a ghost town.

The road leading there is very

scenic and long with a couple of switchbacks that makes it rough to drive in the winter time.

It has a point where you can pull up to at the side of the road and watch the sun rise and set over the mountains.

When I was a teenager it was often called lovers lane.

      At the ...

      • bottom of the mountain is a large bridge with a river that rambles through it makes a good place to take a dip and cool off.

It makes a lovely place to visit.

For me it is kind of special because I spent many of my summer days traveling through Wilder Mountain, I got to see it

when the leaves changed colors, when the new leaves were just starting to bud out and when they had fallen in the winter allowing a better view of the mountains.

Every season offers different views that are spectacular each in their own way.

Now that I’m an adult driving through Wilder Mountain is like a stroll down memory lane.
