Victoria, BC, Canada was first inhabited by the First Nation’s people. The First Nation’s People have a huge heritage here and one of their many fine displays of artwork is the totem pole.

Totem poles stand in the museum and outside of

      it.

There are a few totem poles in the park, and down by the water.

Totem poles are made to tell a story in the time the pole was made.

They are made out of wood, tediously carved by a talented ...

      • carver.

Tony Hunt, from Victoria has a famous totem pole near the museum.

The poles have animals on them (wolves are favourites) and statues of men, ladies, children, and everything imaginable.

The poles are piled high with one thing on another

and some of them reach up twenty feet into the air.

Each pole, while not only telling a story, are brightly painted and of a smooth finish.

It is interesting to study one and try to figure out what the artist was trying to say.
