  • He was a tough tackling full back that was also happy to try and make the play in the final third
  • Phil Neville was sold to Everton as he was getting older and wanted to get more first team football
  • As much as football fans like to suggest they could do Phil Nevilles job, one thing is for sure, they never captained a club the size of Everton and they were never considered good enough to play for the biggest club in the world

When it comes to footballers that fans like to hate, then Phil Neville must be close to the top of many peoples lists. Growing up in Manchester with brother Gary, he was part of the group of young talented footballers, like David Beckham and Paul Scholes, that broke into the Manchester United first team.

He was a player that could play at left back or right back and even in the centre of midfield.

During his time with Manchester United he was certainly viewed as a utility type player, but he was great.

Phil Neville was not about silky skills. He was a tough tackling full back that was also happy to try and make the play in the final third. It was not long before he was recognised by England and started to collect a good number of England caps.

What seemed to annoy many fans was Phil ...

      • Neville was the type if player that everyone for some reason thought they were better than. It simply was not true. It’s ffair to say that he was often not the most graceful of players, but he was brought up in Manchester, he was a Manchester lad and did lots of work that many others would not have done durting their time at Old Trafford.

Phil Neville was sold to Everton as he was

getting older and wanted to get more first team football. He soon became their captain and for me really proved his worth. As much as football fans like to suggest they could do Phil Nevilles job, one thing is for sure, they never captained a club the size of Everton and they were never considered good enough to play for the biggest club in the world. Phil Neville was and people didn’t like that.

        Great effort Phil.
