When Nemanja Vidic signed for Manchester United I was familiar with his name because he had been linked with the club for a long time, but I was very wary of signing a centre back that had made his name playing for the Serbia national team as I had never really been aware of their achievements.

Plus, if he really was that good then how to do you sign a top player for only £7 million?

It’s fair to say he had a shaky

start to his career with Manchester United, He struggled to cope with the pace of the game but also the strength required to play at this level. It didn’t help that he had joined half way through the season but Sir Alex Ferguson wanted him to settle in before a pre-season.

The signs were not looking good but gradually he showed signs of improvements and by the next season, this man was starting to not only look a real player, but he was ...

      • building a great relationship alongside Rio Ferdinand.

Vidic seemed to go from Manchester united flop to one of the best centre backs in the league and the world. His bravery was second to none, he would put his head where people would not want to put their feet.

Injuries and rumours linking him with a move away from the club seemed to unsettle him for a year after enjoying several great years at the club, but a new contract and the captains arm band

seemed to have brought his passion back in bundles and its great to see such a defender back in the ranks at Old Trafford.

He didn’t have the best of starts but has shown everyone that he is the real deal and im so pleased that Manchester United found him and identified him as a great player because with a greater mentality for defending and the ability to score at the other end, Vidic has been worth every penny of his now cheap looking £7 million.
