Best known for his book Little Children because of its recent success as a film, Tom Perrotta’s first novel, The Wishbones, may actually be his best. It is the story of Dave Raymond, a 31-year-old

New Jersey man who still lives with his parents and works part-time as a courier while pursuing his love of music as a guitarist in a wedding band. Some authors might not be able to ...

      • pull off this plotline, but Perrotta does a masterful job with the story. It’s a very fast read (I read it one long sitting, mainly because I couldn’t put it down). By the end, you
care a lot about the characters and the choices they make as they struggle with relationships, jobs, death, and the inevitability of growing up. I even found myself regretting quitting those guitar lessons 25 years ago.
