  • Route number 3 in the Wyre Forest area is a bus journey between Kidderminster and Stourport, which is one of the most important and heavily used services in the region, but which is also quite an interesting trip for the visitor to make
  • Considering that it is intended primarily simply as a way for local people to get from A to B, route 3 is quite a pleasant experience - and, as is usually the case with bus travel, it is also the closest a visitor can get to experiencing everyday life as those living here see it

Route number 3 in the Wyre Forest area is a bus journey between Kidderminster and Stourport, which is one of the most important and heavily used services in the region, but which is also quite an interesting trip for the visitor to make. It would be silly of me to try to make out that it was stunningly scenic or that it was of great historical interest, but nevertheless it will give a good idea of what the area is like.

There are two bus companies which operate

on the number 3 route - First and Whittle. The First buses are more frequent, but otherwise there is not a lot to choose between them, and ticket prices are similar whichever one you go for. The buses themselves are also of broadly comparable quality, with most of them being acceptably comfortable for this half hour journey but not what I would call luxurious. Some of the older vehicles can be quite bumpy, however, especially if you sit over a wheel.

The route is mostly urban, but there ...

      • is a fairly pleasant short stretch between Kidderminster and Stourport which is at least semi-rural. Although by no means wild, the small wooded nature reserve on the Birchen Coppice estate,on the edge of Kidderminster is also worth a look, although you should be aware that the area can be a little bit rough and it is not recommended to go here at night. On a more urban note, the restored canal-scape near the Stourport end of the trip is quite attractive.

Considering that it is intended primarily simply

as a way for local people to get from A to B, route 3 is quite a pleasant experience - and, as is usually the case with bus travel, it is also the closest a visitor can get to experiencing everyday life as those living here see it. I am not going to pretend that this bus trip is something you should travel the world to see, but if you happen to be in the area anyway and can spare the time then it might be worth a try.
