American Pie is a classic American song that will remain an American favorite throughout history. It was released in 1972 in honor of Buddy Holly and the plane crash that took his life along with several other people including Richie Valens and the Big Bopper. The song is all about this plane crash and the affect that it had on the American people.

I love this song because it is part of the American experience. If you are American and you love music that tells a story, you will love this

song as much as I do. It turned into a great sing along song that still goes strong today. I have this song in my collection of greats and it will remain there until the day that I die. The music is fast paced one moment and slow as can be the next. It has an upbeat rhythm yet it has a sad undertone to it. If you know what the song is all about and what each word in the lyrics means, you will certainly be touched by it’s message.

      • Even though the plane crash took place in 1959, the song still had great impact though not released until many years later.

This can be a dance song, although I think it is more of just a sing along song that is great for lighter moments at a concert. There have been many remakes of this song since Don McLean originally released it, including the bombed Madonna version, but Don McLean will always have my heart. No one will ever sing it with as much meaning as Don McLean sang it.

It is a wonderful tribute to those who lost their lives that day in that plane crash. Richie Valens was an up and coming singer who had just begun his career. He didn’t even want to go on the plane because he feared that something bad would happen. They convinced him that he had to go on that plane and so his worst fears were realized. Three musical greats died that day and McLean gave them a tribute that they would never hear. It is an amazing American song from top to bottom.
