Without question, not Eminems best track and yet it remains a classic, why? Because My Name Is was the track that seemed to really announce Eminem on the world stage.

It wasn’t his first song or from his first album but it was the one that captured peoples attention and imagination both across America, in the U.K and beyond.

I like the simplicity of the track. It pokes fun at lots of things such as school, drugs and his mum. This doesn’t

bother me, I didn’t feel as though anything was being glamourised here, he was just speaking both jokey and matter of fact.

The chorus was the key though as he announces his name over and over and over again.

It was as though he knew by placing his alter egos name, Slim Shady, in this song many times over it would stick in peoples minds and it did.

Suddenly everyone wanted to know who Eminem was, who Slim Shady was and Eminem was ...

      • more than happy to respond as he finally had the attention and the platform that he now needed to go on to become a world star.

Of all the songs he has released, in terms of likability and actual quality I don’t actually rate this one too highly. It’s not really his style, even though it’s come from him. It’s quite slow, it’s measured, it’s clear and it gets some messages across, with the most important one being who he is.

many ways this song is a lesson to many up and coming artists, out there. Don’t try too hard with your first one, don’t make your best shot your first shot. It just needs to be something that gets you out there and get people listening.

As Eminem has shown, once he got people listening, with im sure many would agree was a pretty average track now, he had a world ready to listen to his message and boy has he given us plenty.
