Cinderella Man, which was filmed in 2005, tells the story of a boxer who is trying to support his family during the Great Depression. The film stars Russell Crowe as Jim Braddock, a washed up heavyweight boxer trying to regain his old glory and earn money for his family. It is based on a true story.

Jim Braddock is dubbed the Cinderella Man because his story is so unlikely. He is poor, old, and downtrodden, and he leaves retirement only so that his family can eat.

He cannot find work and his wife and children are very hungry and about to lose their home. The movie really captures the desperation of the Great Depression, the hunger that gripped the cities and a sense of hopelessness as people tried to get by.

Jim Braddock must return to the ring and face a terrifying opponent who has killed a man in a previous bout. The story is very suspenseful.

Although we hope that Jim will win, and that this movie will ...

      • have a happy ending, nothing is certain. RenĂ©e Zellweger, who plays James Braddock’s wife, does a good job playing a supportive spouse who is nevertheless deeply concerned about her husband’s safety.

Since I didn’t know how the historical story ended, the movie was suspenseful. I don’t know how close to reality the movie Cinderella Man actually was to the historical story of Jim Braddock’s career, but the movie definitely held my interest.

One flaw in the movie however, is that James Braddock is a

little bit too likable. He seems like the perfect person, and we know that no one is really the perfect.

He does not seem to have any bad qualities, and neither does his wife. It was not a very realistic portrayal in that sense — the heroes were a little too perfect and not well-rounded characters.

This was the weakness of the movie. On the surface however, it was entertaining, but I really found it to be only average because the characters were too simply drawn.
