This is a great historical and educational place to visit. It is fun for the whole family no matter what the age. It teaches you a lot about the lives of native americans from years ago. My husband and I enjoyed our visit to this special place.

Be sure and stop at the visitor center/ranger station of this park. The rangers are very informative and will give you a map of the area. They will also answer any questions you have , and if you’re lucky tell you some interesting stories. Also you can watch a 15 minute film that talks about the history of this place , the mounds , and more. You

can also see old artifacts from the native americans that are just amazing. I loved the pottery. They also sell pictures and things from $5.00 to on up.

Be sure and wear comfortable shoes , since the tour is also a good hike. You can drive around to , but you won’t be able to see everything that way. I really loved walking the trails on this sacred ground. Keep your eyes open , because there is no telling what you might see.

The Earthlodge, is really cool. You can actually walk into this mound and the clay floor is original. There are signs up saying that this would be a meeting place and place ...

      • of worship for the native americans. It is beautiful to look at on the outside too , just a big mound of grass with a wooden walk way.

Another cool mound is the , Great Temple Mound. It is the largest mound and the one that the tour ends with. Stairs have been added so that you can walk all the way to the top of this mound. The scenery is beautiful from up there. You can see the Ocmulgee River and also the town of Macon from the top. It is really a spot that will make you just stop and appreciate life. It is very peaceful up there.

        The park is very

clean. This is a sacred place , so there are only certain places you can picnic at. It is kept up very nicely by people that honestly respect the grounds.

You will be surprised to know that visiting this park is free. I recommend purchasing something from the gift shop or giving a small donation. This is a lovely place to visit , and I will happily go back if I am ever in the area again. Be sure and bring your camera for some cool pictures too. Enjoy the beauty of the place , but also stop and think about those that lived there thousands of years ago. This is one park you should not miss seeing.
