Just Listen by Sarah Dessen is a teen novel similar to The Truth about Forever. The main character’s problems are similar to those of the main character in The Truth about Forever, but Sarah Dessen gives her a different voice and a different perspective on her problems. the protagonist never really mentions what happens, and you just get bits of flashbacks, there’s a sort of feel that her problem is just with her friends and her sister. Until, of course, you figure it out and then you are shown it because the entire scene is played out.

the mean friend gets a comeuppance, but instead the main character gets some support without a huge scene. Everything happens quietly, probably because the main character, despite being a model, is a quiet person. The scene with her friend Owen’s sister Mallory and Mallory’s friends at their pretend modeling scene shows this. It’s nice how you can see how the character
is feeling and you don’t have to have really obvious scenes or the author have the character say how they feel, you as the reader can sense it. It makes it feel as if you are actually able to just follow along in this girl’s head.

The writing is very smooth, and really allows you to focus on this one person’s life.
