Undercovers: Instructions is the second show of this series about a husband and wife with a catering business who also operate as spies for tough missions. In this episode, Dr. Nasir, a valuable scientist, has gone missing, as has her husband. The suspected kidnappers are private military brothers with their own agenda. Thus, Gerald McRaney’s character of CIA operative Carlton Shaw recruits the married couple to try to

track down the culprits in Turks & Caicos.

Boris Kodjoe and Gugu Mbatha-Raw do a fine job as Steven and Samantha Bloom. They present power, romance, and intelligence. That’s a solid combination that enables them to be believable and enjoyable to watch in this series.

One of the fun things about this episode is that not everything goes perfectly. They make mistakes, and that makes it real. One ...

      • of the things that happened here was such a man thing, too, and basically has to do with Steven not reading the instructions on how to set a tracking device. So typical!

I was glad to see Carter McIntyre back as Leo Nash, another operative. I’m not as fond of the fact that he has history with Samantha, but he’s a good, solid character and he really adds something

to the mix. At the end we find out that Shaw has Nash assigned to the Bloom’s team permanently.

This show has potential to be a solid performer, as long as they don’t veer into too much of the personal soap opera business.

For those who love action, there is plenty of that, including chase scenes and gigantic explosions, not to mention the splatter of gunfire at various points in the hour.
