This is the most eccentric name of me for a perfume. This edition gave a different set up for the version. The first edition of Pi was released during the late nineties and this particular version is Pi Neo for 2010. I have to analyze the name and what is the story behind the fragrance. Pi is a mathematical concept which provides a constant value for the ratio of the circumference of a circle to its diameter. I could not get any story from the name except it is a Greek letter. There is one thing I noticed from the first released of this perfume, the bottle simulates the symbol and it really looked peculiar. This perfume is woody in classification contrary to how it looked from the outside. The bottle is transparent with an

aquatic blue shade. There was only one inspiration that came to my mind upon seeing it— water but since this was woody, it did not jive. However, as to the unprecedented shape and name, this is unique.

The scent stimulates you when it opens with its zesty citrus flavors like bergamot and mandarin. I love bergamot and remains to be an impressive source of citrus aroma. The heart spurs woody aroma so early because it has cedar. The middle notes also has patchouli. Then the smell dries down with amber, leather and vanilla. When I first sniff the smell, the quality was good. It felt like smelling organic citrus fruits freshly picked from the farm. There was a little mellow down with mandarin because this one smelled like orange juice. However, since it was quick to ...

      • jump to the segue, the scent was instilled with masculine notes. Cedar made the scent smell old and masculine. This is typical and not very fragrant but a little bit of patchouli helped its aroma better. It was like combining a little minty scent to the old wooden bark of the tree. It did not change the perspective though and it remained masculine, woody and strong. Then for the base, only leather stood out and combined with amber was a little warm. All I can say about the base is that the smell was very warm and the woody smell lightened leaving only humid smell like amber and vanilla. For it to be labelled woody, I am a bit frustrated.

Since this is “Neo”, it means a newly repackaged concept. I was carefully analyzing the

entire smell and compared it to the original Neo but it did not impress me with this version. There was nothing new in this Pi Neo of 2010. The original was oriental woody. There were hints of masculine nuances like woody and vanilla. These notes were very present in Pi Neo 2010 with the sole inclusion of leather. The latter influenced the smell to make it dark and strongly masculine but there are obvious traces of vanilla and the ever encompassing woody cedar. Thus if inspiration and new concepts is to be highlighted, this is not a newly repackaged smell. It is the same old Neo perfume that came out decades ago. The only change that was introduced was the color of the bottle and a more exceptional look. But the scent itself, it is not the latest idea.
